Bernice Riddick Lassiter

On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, God called His faithful daughter, Bernice Riddick Lassiter from her earthly home to eternal rest. She was born Bernice Virginia Askew on January 11, 1943, in Norfolk, VA to the late John L. Morris, Sr. and Queenie Askew. Bernice was educated within Norfolk County Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for most of her career. After her first retirement, she rejoined the workforce as a school bus driver for Norfolk Public Schools only to retire again. 

Upon her return to Virginia from Amarillo, TX, Bernice joined Faith Deliverance Christian Center where she was a member for over thirty years. Mother Lassiter sang in the choir and danced in the Dance Ministry until she was no longer mobile. 

Bernice Riddick Lassiter was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Andrew Askew, Sr., John Morris, Jr., and Randolph Morris; two sisters, Helen Parker and Elise White; one son, George Riddick; one granddaughter, Christina Stokes; one great-granddaughter, Promise Ja’Lynn Archer. She leaves to cherish her loving memories, two daughters, Wanda Stokes (Milton) of Virginia Beach and Trenice Lassiter of Norfolk; three sons, Alex Riddick (Kristi) of Suffolk, John Riddick, Jr. of Amarillo, TX, and Austin Lassiter of Norfolk; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Riddick of Brandon, FL; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren, two devoted nieces Melissa Askew of Norfolk and LaBarbara Willis of Elizabeth City, NC and a host of relatives and friends. 

Bernice took immense pride in her church and her family. Her warmth and nurturing nature made her an exceptional mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend. Her many loved ones will forever treasure her unwavering love and support. Bernice leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment for life. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
