Bernice Shambley Moore Vinson, 89, was born to David Shambley and Maggie Collins on March 17, 1932 in Harrellsville, NC. On Sunday, January 2, 2022 she went home to be with our Lord and Savior.
In the early 40’s the family moved to Virginia, where Bernice completed her schooling in the Norfolk Public School System. She went on to complete her degree in cosmetology and working at Norfolk State University.
Bernice married Charles Moore, Sr. and from this union five children were born; Charles Moore, Jr., Douglas Moore, Matilda Sherroid, Loretta Moore and Dwayne Moore. In her later years she married Willie Vinson and from this union four children were born; Andre Moore, Clinton Moore, Michael Banks, and Bernetta Vinson. Bernice also had two bonus sons, David Holloway and Alton Couther.
Everyone who knew Bernice, knew that she loved the Lord and you could find her praising the Lord anywhere, whether it was at home, church, the grocery store, clothing stores or just witnessing to others. She answered her call to God to become a minister in the 70’s. Bernice had a genuine passion for loving on everyone. She enjoyed family get togethers, cooking and baking her favorite German chocolate cakes.
Bernice loved her children unconditionally and her children loved her. She enjoyed traveling and she especially loved going to the family reunions to meet up with her cousins and dancing with her children.
Bernice attended Deliverance Tabernacle Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Earl Moore until her illness prevented her from going to church. She loved going to church and she would be preaching, shouting and giving God the glory.
Bernice was predeceased by her sons, Douglas Moore and David Holloway; her husbands, Charles Moore, Sr. and Willie Vinson; her parents, David Shambley and Maggie Banks; brothers, David Shambley, Jr. and George Shambley.
Bernice is survived by her children, Charles Moore, Jr. (Beverley), Matilda Sherroid, Loretta Moore, Dwayne Moore (Erika), Andre Moore, Clinton Moore, Michael Banks (Ingrid), Bernetta Vinson and Alton Couther; seventeen grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. She will truly be missed.
