Bennie E. Askew, Sr.

Mr. Bennie Eugene Askew, AKA, Bennie Blue was born August 25, 1942 and raised in Norfolk Va. He graduated from Booker t. Washington High School, where he played sports and grew a passion for baseball. Bennie began a career at Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock. Upon successful completion of the on the job training, he was promoted to night shift supervisor.

After many years of employment, he transitioned to Colonna Shipyard where he retired. During retirement, he always found time to immerse in his favorite pastimes of viewing professional sports (especially baseball), watching old western movies, lawncare and miscellaneous home projects.

He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Maxine Askew; three sons, and two daughters, Michael, Maurice (Angela), Adrienne (James), Bennie Jr. (Andrea) and Shannon; grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Gladys Askew and brother, Bernard (Moochie) Askew.
