A Life Well Lived
Barbara Marie Lamb, affectionately known as Bobbie, Babby, and Li Nana was born June 3, 1942, to the late Ruth Katherine Daise and the late Vernon Lee West. She was raised in the Berkley section of Norfolk, VA where she lived until her untimely passing. She was predeceased by her three brothers: Bernard Woodhouse, Lawrence Woodhouse (Larry), and Claude Nixon (Lil Buddy).
Barbara received her education within the Norfolk Public School system and went on to further her education by completing courses via Norfolk State University. She later became an LPN via the S.T.O.P. Educational Program after which she was employed in various hospital settings including nursing home care and private duty nursing until sustaining a heart attack at age 50 in 1994 and ending her career as a nurse; however, one monkey stops no show. She would always say, “If you can’t be with the one you, love the one you’re with” so she continued to serve and care for others in her own way until her passing. Yes, Barbara had a different meaning for various things even if her meanings were unconventional.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. Mark United Church of Christ most of her life, serving in various capacities, including the nursing board, missionary board, pastor board, and singing in the choir. In 1985, she was ordained as a minister at First Baptist Campostella and was later ordained as an elder while serving at Agape Full Gospel. Barbara never shied away from making a church, where she often fellowshipped, her home church. She was a prayer warrior, always the life of the party or celebration loved to sing, and was the go-to person to sing at any event whether she knew you or not. Barbara left an indelible mark on the lives of everyone she encountered.
Barbara will always be remembered by many for her quick wit, unfiltered sense of humor, always willing to pray and/or offer words of wisdom, and tardiness.. because she cared about everything. The running joke was she would be late for her own funeral. She did not play about her children and grandchildren, and she did not miss the Lord when he called. The world is a lesser place without our dear MaMa’s presence, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. We take solace in the memories we shared and the impact she had on our lives. Sleep in peace, MaMa. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Legacy of Love and Family
To cherish her loving memory she leaves her five children, Bernard Lamb, Kathryn Swann (Rob), Sabrina Lamb-Burgman, La Barbara Williams, and Donyelle Bernice Lamb; one surviving maternal aunt, Bernice Townes; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Woodhouse; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
