Barbara Jean Brooks

Our beloved Matriarch Barbara Jean Brooks went to be with the Angels on March 25, 2025, at the age of 82 yrs old. Barbara was born on October 13, 1942, in Norfolk, VA to the late Americus Jones and Margaret Sykes Jones. She retired from the Defense Distribution Dept. Norfolk Naval Base, where she received several awards.

Barbara known, as “BJB” will forever be remembered for her unforgettable humor, love for music, dance moves, and above all her many quotes and funny phrases which will live on forever in the family.

Barbara is preceded in death by her son, Derek Brooks; daughter, Gail Brooks; one sister, Evangeline Moreland; two brothers, Americus Jones, Jr. (Mack June) and Wyndell Jones (Slick 50). She leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Sonya Marshall and Donna Brooks; one son, Baron (Ba-Ba) Brooks; one sister, Rhonda Kelibi.; three grandsons, Dion, Dajon, and Raseem Brooks; two granddaughters, Shamik Thompson, and Davesha Hill; two step-granddaughters, Shacura, and Marisha Mackey; one adopted granddaughter, Jewel Spivey; ten great grands, Dionna, Dion, Jr., Dineem, Dioz, Dajonna, Dajon, Jr., Rasheem, Royalty, La’Mir, La’Miyah; one great-grandchild, Chasity Hill, and three great-great-grandchildren, Karmelo, Tayson, Jr., and Prince. She is also survived by a host of special, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will truly be missed by many others who called her BJB-Grandma and Aunt Barb.

BJB was the Needle and Thread of our family.
