Barbara D. Winston

Sunrise: December 8, 1933

Sunset: March 3, 2019

Barbara Deloris Winston, 85, of Norfolk, Virginia peacefully passed from this life into an eternal life in Heaven on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Henrico Health and Rehabilitation Center.  She was surrounded with love by her three beloved daughters.

Barbara was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 8, 1933 to the late Samuel Lee Clanton and Dorothy Winston.   She received her education at Booker T. Washington High School and earned an Associates’ degree from Tidewater Community College.

Barbara was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for many years where she faithfully served as a child of Christ.  She loved to help others and served on the Moses Reid Usher Board.  She was adamant about ensuring under-privileged children received a great education and served many years at the Head Start Organization.

After suffering a stroke in 1988, Barbara enjoyed volunteering and helping others in the Berkley community.  She could often be seen in Berkley with a bright smile and a welcoming “Hey Baby” to all who encountered her.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Jacqueline and her brother Matthew, Sr. (Margaret); three daughters – Beverly (Larry), Vicki (Anthony) and Toni; grandchildren, Bonita and Lauren and one great grandson, Keon.   She has loving nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.  She is also blessed to have a large contingent of loved ones in the Winston, Williams, Minor and Jones families, who held a special place for her in their hearts.

She is already truly missed.

Just lean on Jesus for he will comfort and keep you through this difficult time. Barbara always had “good conversation” when we would see each other usually at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. I’ve missed her awhile now.
