On May 5, 2023, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend Transitioned From this life in a moment… in a twinkling of an eye. And, as quickly as she made her exit in this life, she made her grand entrance to eternal life with our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
While we are extremely saddened by our loss, we know that heaven has welcomed her with a warm embrace.
Born August 5, 1939, in Norfolk, VA to Mary Roy Hassell, Barbara was the 10th child out of 11 and was one of the quiet and shy siblings. Though she was timid, she was known for sticking up for herself and the family. She had an unbreakable bond full of love, laughter, and joy with her sister Shirley Grant and late sister Joan Hassell-Young. Barbara loved her children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren dearly. Barbara’s energy brightened any and every space she entered.
Barbara was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools’ system. In which she loved chorus with a passion and focused on Gospel music. Barbara’s love for Gospel, encouraged her faith with god.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memories children Wayne Hassell, Quinton Hassell also Sonia Smallwood. Grandchildren Desiree Hassell, Christian Hassell. Great grand children Lakaiya Hassell, Janaiya Hassell, Cinaedra Richardson, Kristopher Alexander. She went on later in life and married the love of her life Willoughby Ohio Asterrilla.
Barbara was a loving and God fearing woman, she loved her family and friends. In Barbara later days, she also raised her granddaughter’s and help them becoming loving and respectful young women.
Barbara was know for her greens and stuffing, she LOVED cooking!!! “Her favorite slogan was if there’s a will there’s a way”Amem!!! Barbara will be forever missed by her family and friends and love one. God bless!
