Arthur L. Taylor

Sunrise: January 22, 1941

Sunset: December 13, 2021
The adored husband, father, poppa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend Arthur “Louis” Taylor fell asleep in death on Monday, December 13, 2021.  Louis was born Wednesday, January 22, 1941 to Johnnie and Maggie (Sanderlin) Taylor in the Berkley section of Norfolk, Virginia.  He was the third born of nine children.  At the age of nine, he suffered an enormous tragedy; Louis lost his legs in a train accident. He never allowed anyone to feel pity for him.  Right away, he didn’t let the above the knee amputations hold him back and nor did the community.  A neighbor constructed a scooter with wood and roller skate wheels.  Louis operated this scooter with gloved hands as he freely traveled the neighborhood.  He frequented streets such as 13th (Halifax), Liberty and Main to name a few, crooning and belting out tunes with the fellows. He was well known and highly respected.
With prosthetics and crutches, his independence strengthened.  But once he obtained licenses (driver/barber) and a car with hand controls for the brake and accelerator his independence was indisputable.  Taylor became the master barber.  His custom made barber chair allowed him to sit as he cut, styled and shaved loyal customers just as any other licensed barber in the state of Virginia.  These services were rendered throughout Norfolk and Chesapeake for he had a wife and five to feed. He did this for over 40 years, spending the majority of that time at Blowe’s Barber Shop in the Park Place section of Norfolk.
Many knew Taylor NEVER complained and professed being content in all things.  “I’m just as content as I can be” was his motto; and he tried to get others to feel the same. He enjoyed studying the Bible not only to gain knowledge but for truth, wisdom, and hope.  His favorite verses were Psalm 23, John 3:16 and Luke 6:38.  He bragged of the Bible’s powerful message and was determined to be an excellent provider.  And he was truly successful.  He was a member of the Oldie but Goodies of Berkley.  He loved watching detective programs, westerns and sport events.  Go Washington Football Team! He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, cooking, baking and repairing EVERYTHING with gray tape.
Louis endured the lost of some dear loved ones:  Parents-Johnnie and Maggie Taylor; three brothers-James Sanderlin, Johnnie Taylor and Charles Taylor; son-Arthur “Buck” Taylor; two godsons-Andy Jennette and Jermaine Wilson; his corner crooners and a host of other relatives and friends.  He leaves loved ones that are awaiting the promise at John 5:28, 29: wife of 61 years-Vivian “Goodtime” Taylor; son-Donnie (Sherry) Taylor; three daughters-Melissa “Lisa” Roscoe, Michele (Sherman) Wilson, Sonia “Nay-Nay” Taylor; eight grandchildren who loved their Poppa-Donnall Taylor, Sharmon Taylor, LeDonta Taylor, Stevon Taylor, Sumyeria Taylor, MarQuan Burnett, Carlyse Harrell and Ashley Halley; 15 great grandchildren; brother-Dennis Taylor; four sisters-Mary Thomas, Shirley Taylor, Diane (Marshall) Willis and Chevie Taylor; three brother-in-laws-Vernon (Carol) Silver, Johnie (Barbara) Silver, Clarence (Debra) Hoskie; four sister-in-laws-Agenora Taylor, Mary McDonald, Laverne Greene, Vann Perez, special niece Sherron Thomas, special friend-Bernard Harrell and a host of other relatives and friends.  So please know, Honey, Daddy, Poppa, Uncle, Cousin, Mr. T, Louis, or Taylor no matter what he was called, he was loved, cherished and respected by all.

Please know that this is only temporary until Jesus Christ make that call as mentioned in John 5:28,29 “Wake Up”, then the eyes of the blind, the lame, the deaf and death will all be of the past.

Have faith and do-not fear for our God, Jehovah will wipe the things that causes pain away permanently. Revelation 21:3,4
