Antonio “Tony” Armstrong went home to be with his heavenly father on July 17, 2020 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was born to the late Dorothy Mae Slater and Robert Lee Barnes Sr. on January 18, 1967 in Norfolk, Virginia. He was raised on Liberty St. in South Norfolk until the age of ten when his mother passed. He then moves to Pleasant Park and was raised with his father and step mother Lilly Dillard. He was educated by Chesapeake Public School and played football for Oscar Smith High School. He later married Teresa Davis on July 11, 1992 and they remained married for 28 years. He worked at American Trenching Company and WE Curling until he took ill and went out on disability. He loved the lord and was a long-term member of the New Saint James AME Church. He loved sports. He was a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. He played softball for K-Team and the Hustlers for many years. Tony loved snacks, he was known for giving all the kids candy and sweets. Tony was the life of the party. He loved to dance and listen to oldies music. He was a sweet person that always welcomed people with open arms. His nickname was “Pretty Tony.” He loved to get dress and match with his wife while attending family celebrations and vacations. He was a family man with a giving heart.
Tony was pre-deceased by his brothers: Deverna ”Boogie” Armstrong, Claude Barnes, Thaddeus Armstrong, sisters: Shelia Barnes, and Sabrina Armstrong and mother-in law Lillie “Nonnie” Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Teresa Armstrong, , Five daughters: Shantwanise Scott of Bryans Road, MD, Shaneka Scott-Berry (Wabe) of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Brandi German of Bryans Road, MD, and Erika Jefferson and Starr Armstrong of Chesapeake, VA; Two sons: Torreon Scott of Bryans Road, MD and Antonio Armstrong Jr. of Chesapeake, VA; Six granddaughter: Nate’ Briggs, A’miya Moore-Scott, Jordan and Kayla Scott, Willow Berry, Bailey and Brooklynn Luckett; Three grandsons: Jayden, Torreon Jr., and Torrence Scott; Three sister: Debra Smith (James) and Shelia Lewis of Chesapeake, VA, and Phyllis Stallworth of Baltimore, MD; Five brothers; Lafayette Armstrong of Sumter, SC, Mickey Armstrong (Cassandra) of Chesapeake, VA Robert Barnes Jr. of Suffolk, VA, Earnest Armstrong (Pam) of Norfolk, VA, and Dwight Hamlin of Suffolk, VA. He was also survived by Two aunts: Gardenia Slater and Lola Turner of Chesapeake, VA; Two uncles: Sylvester “Junior” Slater of Mt. Rainer, MD, and George Boggs (Gladys) of Dale City, VA.; Father in law; James “Short-man” Davis Sr. of Chesapeake, VA, Four sister’s in law, Cynthia Brooks (Mike), Michelle Blount and Deborah Davis of Chesapeake, VA, and Bettina Hodges(Grail) of Portsmouth, VA ; One brother in law Keith Davis (Tiara) of Portsmouth of VA; A special great niece Alise “Juicy Juicy” Davis; Two special motherly figure Emma Harold and Belva Rivers Watts; A special son Ronald “Dee” Pearson; Special friends Aaron Barco, Clifton and Stacy Little, Rick Harris, Darryl Jackson, Darryl Fuller, Charles Bryant. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
