She slumbers so sweetly, oh let her sleep on, tired she be, her sickness all ended, her troubles all gone. The depth of our sorrow, no one can tell. While she lay in peaceful sleep, her sacred memories we will keep. The Most High’s finger touched her, and she sleeps.

It was according to the will of The Most High, and his decree that the concluding chapter in the life of Anna Cliffie (Missy) Austin (68) was completed on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. She was born on July 13th, 1955, in Newyork City, NY. Reared in both NY and Hattiesburg, MS. She attended Brandeis High School in Hattiesburg, MS, then furthered her education obtaining an associate degree in office administration from The University of Maryland European Branch. A much-loved member (conductress) of Geraldine C. Scales Chapter # 115 OES (PHA) Panama, Republic of Panama. She attended Grove Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. Anna was employed in a myriad of positions over the course of her life as follows:

Warehouse Worker- Hoffman Beverage Company- Chesapeake, VA Customer Service Associate- Mapp Communications- Chesapeake VA Insurance Military Service Agent- GEICO- Virginia Beach, VA

Secretary- Norfolk Naval Shipyard (sup ship) Portsmouth, VA
Secretary- (Office Automation) SHAPE American High School, Belgium Secretary (Office Clerk)- 543rd Army Support Group (DPCA), Bremerhaven, Germany Pianist- Ft Clayton Chapel- Panama Republic of Panama

Anna is survived by her spouse of 42 years, James Lorenzo Austin Jr, one son, Sean Hilton Sr., two grandchildren, Sean Hilton Jr. And Sukari Hilton, one brother, Kenneth Thrasher; one sister-in-law, Sabrina Thrasher; one nephew Kawan, one grandnephew Kane, two grand nieces Kailyn and Keira, two cousins, Chester and Dominique Carter. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Ethel Parks and one cousin, Alma Jean (Billy) Hilton.

    Even though I haven’t seen you in years, the memories that I have of all of us on the hill is hilarious. We had some GOOD times together and we will continue to miss you. I remember the piano practices and the fence jumping and all the laughs we shared. You will always be in our hearts. Rest on Missy, Rest on.

    Even tho we’re just neighbors you and I talked quite a bit. Our relationship blossomed over the yrs. We didnt talk as much in the last year but I’m glad we got a good laugh in the week before God called you!!!!

    I remember all the good times we had and i remember when you first met James in hattiesburg and your wedding. We were close and I will never forget the good times we shared.     Anna it was a joy to know you as a beautiful queen, one thing i know you were known as the First Lady thats what your better half use to call you to me and that said it ALL, James held a special place in his heart to respect and acknowledge God gift to him. You will be miss tremendously and i appreciate that God gave me the pleasure and enjoyment of knowing you. No more pain First Lady now you can be TOTALLY at PEACE.

    Ms Anna I had the pleasure 9f meeting you on the job here at Naval Hospital. The very first time we worked side by side in the OR as cleaning technician. You were a force to be reckoned with or should I say a pistol lol. Well your work and kind heart spoke for itself and you use to always say: whatever God has in store for me I’m ready. Rest in peace my friend. My Condolences to the famiy

    This one still seems unreal. I remember the first time we met in Georgia ( 37 years ago) during the military journey we sem to always be station at the same army base. I thank God for our friendship that lasted so long. Missy, Girl , I’ll miss you. But the memories I have will always be tucked away in my heart.
