Andrew Donald Patterson, Sr.

Sunrise: September 29, 1956

Sunset: September 12, 2024

We have gathered today with family and friends to celebrate the life of Andrew Donald Patterson., Sr., known as Andy to family but affectionately called “Andycapp” by his loving wife Miranda of twenty-two years.

He took the hand of the Lord quietly and peacefully as his wife comforted him during his transition.

Andy was born in Philadelphia, PA., to the late Willie James Moody and Viola Patterson on September 29, 1956. Andy grew up in Philadelphia, PA, and graduated in 1974 from Jules E. Mastbaum Vocational Technical High School in Kensington, PA, where he studied Architectural Drafting. In 1975, Andy enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves for one year. He changed his career and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1996 after 21 years of service.

Andy and his brother Raymond spent summers with their loving grandmother, Sarah Patterson, and their auntie, Magdalene Key of Aiken, SC. Attending church was of the utmost importance. Andy was baptized at the age of 12 at Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church in Aiken, South Carolina.

Andy had a soft spirit but meant what he said, living his life on his terms and to the point. He was a “Jack of all trades.” His favorite pastimes were caring for his plants, maintaining an immaculate home, and building his model ships. He loved the outdoors, cooking out on the grill and going fishing. Andy was known for being a sharp dresser and well-put-together at all times. He was methodical about everything he touched. He could sew without a pattern and entertain by signing and blowing his harmonica to his favorite artist, Lee Oskar from WAR. Andy was a carpenter, painter, and mechanic. Most of all. He was a man of his word with great integrity.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. Moody and Viola Patterson Craig, and his sister, Delois Patterson. He is survived by his loving wife, Robin Miranda Patterson; his sons, Andrew D. Patterson, Jr, and Andre’ D Patterson (Barri); his grandchildren, Jerome, Tamiya, Lauren, Ja’Niya, and Alyssa; his brother, Raymond Craig; two aunts, Magdalene Key and Marie Patterson, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition, Andy had three very close friends: Edward Shelford, known as “Fast Eddie”, Larry Winkfield, known as “Wink”, and Wayne Taylor, and a host of relatives and friends.
