Alvin Paul Johnson Sr. ( Big Al) 63, of Norfolk, Virginia went home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, March 18, 2019. Alvin was born August 9, 1955 in Chesapeake/Norfolk County to Pauline and Albert Johnson. Alvin attended and graduated from Deep Creek High School. After finishing his education, he went on to become a shortshoreman, soon after a longshoreman. Alvin “Slick 50” loved working and joking with his fellow longshoreman. He enjoyed helping and having an impact on their lives. Everyone knew they could not pull a fast one over on him. He loved cleaning his truck and cars, getting dressed to impress. He
loved driving, whether it was going to see family or just riding out because it was a nice day. He also enjoyed relaxing at home with family, getting some chocolate ice cream and cake, and watching tv, especially his westerns.
Alvin was very dependable about things you asked him. He loved his family, the BEST dad and granddad a child could ask for. He was always there no matter the time of day or night.
He will be truly missed. He was predeceased by his father, Albert Johnson; brothers, Calvin
“Big Man” Johnson, Sr. and Michael Johnson; sister, Cora Robinson and nephew, Allan Johnson Alvin is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughters, Alvah Johnson- Wiggins (Patrick), Eboni Johnson and Chimeka Johnson-Cook (Ernest); sons, Alvin Johnson Jr. and Tyler Joyner; mother, Pauline Johnson; brother, Rev. Larry Johnson; sisters, Pastor Margaret Pittman, Shelia Riddick and Carolyn Howard (Dwight); grandchildren, Jamiah, Marleake, Aven, Keishawn, Dre and Emonnie and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

March 22, 2019 at 11:15 amMy sincere condolences to the Johnson family. Alvin was one of the coolest and funniest men I have known over the years. I’m so sorry I didn’t get to see him prior to his passing. I will always cherish the many laughs we shared when he was with my sister Darlene. Heart broken that I didn’t get that opportunity to say good by.
