Alvin B. Samuel, Jr.

Alvin B. Samuel, Jr. was born on May 9, 1973, in Livingston, Alabama, to the loving union of Alvin B. Samuel Sr. and Dorothy Landrum. He became a born-again believer in 2001. He transitioned to his heavenly home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2024.

Alvin’s life was one of service to his country and all those around him. After graduating from Sumter County High School, he joined the military and married his high school sweetheart , Sheila. He was a Navy veteran who served in the United States Navy from July 1992 until he retired in July 2012. He received many medals for his outstanding service and commitment to his country.

Alvin was a gifted chef who enjoyed sharing his talent with others. He was a Navy Culinary Specialist, a Kitchen Manager for Christopher Newport University, a Sous Chef for Old Dominion University, and the Cafeteria Manager for Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA. He used his love for cooking to serve and encourage students striving to fulfill their purpose. Whether Alvinwas delivering scones to his co-workers, baking cakes for military change of command functions, or providing snacks for his daughter’s soccer team, he was always inspiring others through kindness and generosity.

Alvin was a dedicated University of Alabama Crimson Tides fan. One of his favorite sayings was “Roll tide, all day, every day!” He was also a fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Heat.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin B. Samuel, Sr. and Dorothy Landrum; two sons, Alvin B. Samuel III and Tyler Jamal Samuel. He leaves to cherish his beautiful memory, a loving and devoted wife, Sheila Samuel of Virginia Beach, VA; his children, Darius (Bria) Samuel and Alonna Samuel, both of Virginia Beach, VA; his siblings, Lester (LaToya) Samuel of York, AL, and Valerie Samuel of Oak Park, MI; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Alvin will be dearly missed by all those who loved and cherished him.

    My condolences to the Samuel Family during this difficult time. I will keep all of you lifted in prayer. Alvin (Pig) grew up in my neighborhood. I haven’t seen him in many years, but saddened me to hear about his death.
