On September 24, 1919, Almetia Ruffin was born in Richsquare, North Carolina to the late John and Julia Tillery. God the Father, in His Infinite Wisdom saw she was getting weary and called His daughter home. She departed this life on April 25, 2018, 10:10 am at Bayside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Arthur Ruffin, her sons, Dick and Robert and her daughters, Julia Ann and Irene. She was married to the late Arthur Ruffin. They were the parents of six children, Robert, Dick, Julia, Beatrice, Jeanette and Irene. She was a lifelong domestic worker and homemaker. She met Arthur in North Carolina. Her husband moved to Virginia in the early 50’s and later sent for his family. They later made their home in Alexandria Virginia where her daughter Bea lives til this day.
She loved cooking, playing cards and was an avid sports fan. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and her extended family in Norfolk and Philadelphia. At 98 years old, She was the Matriarch of the family, the oldest living member of the Curry/ Tillery clan. She had two special nieces, Bessie Artis of Philadelphia, who also preceded her in death and Julia Robinson (Boosie) of Norfolk, her card partner. She was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and at an early age accepted Him as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Branch Baptist church in Richsquare, North Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Beatrice Ruffin-June (James) and Jeanette Ruffin, 13 grandchildren, Robert Jr., Tony, Robert III, Richard, Norman, Jennifer, Theresa, Ike Jr., Samuel, Dietra, Kimberly, Karen and Nathaniel and a host of great grand and great great grandchildren, one sister, Louvenia Goodman of Virginia beach, And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
