Alice Butler-Bonner was called home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2024. Born in Washington D.C. on January 31, 1946, she is the sibling of three sisters and six brothers of the late James John Butler and Mary Adele Somerville Butler. Alice was raised and baptized in the Catholic faith. In 1976, Alice moved to Virginia soon transitioning to become a faithful member of New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church. She has played an intricate part as a missionary and other various positions within the Baptist church.
Flashback
Through Alice’s transitional lifetime milestone moments, she was once better known as Patsy or during the 1970s as “Pat the Cat” from way back. She was raised in the District of Columbia often reflecting upon eventful moments living in the neighborhood of Barry Farms. Patsy was a woman who possessed a variety of personality traits of strength, determination, outspokenness, competitiveness, and assertiveness. On the other side, she demonstrated nurturance to many in need. For example, she was known to keep sodas in the trunk of her car or other supplies just in case there was a need to be fulfilled during a time of trouble for family or friends.
Challenges
During her times of struggles. Patsy would always find a way out of no way by not giving up, but PUSH (pray until something happens). Through those times of opposition, she went back to school and earned her GED with acceptable scores of above average and to her credit, pushed forward to also gain a CNA license in 1996.
Certificate of Rewards & Organization Affiliation
Volunteer services, Letters of Appreciation (Chesapeake General Hospital), Directors Shining Award (CGH), Perfect Attendance Certificate (CGH), Certificate of Recognition and appreciation (Environmental Services Department), Employee of the Quarter, Excellent Performance, Employee of the Month outstanding performance, perfection attendance and accolades of honor to her exceptional work ethic for girl scout leadership.
Talents
Patsy was a lover of music and was not afraid to sing often with voluntary selections. During her younger years, she sang as a background vocalist hoping to be famous. Later joining the young adult choir singing for the lord. As time passed on and as her memory began to fade, hearing the beautiful voices of staff on the memory care unit, family, and friends would capture her back to consciousness resulting in an illuminating smile.
Dancer
Alice (Patsy) also possessed the love of dance through inheritance of the Butler family. As a daughter of Christ, she turned that love of dance into the dance of praise which did not limit her praise during her times of struggle but applied through times of victory as the same as David in 2 Samuel 6:14 within her moments of adversity, she gave glory to God believing and knowing that Jesus will Work It Out!!!
Prayer Warrior
Patsy would often direct anyone during a time of trouble to say the 23rd Psalm, the Lord is my Shepherd the psalm of David and one of her favorite scriptures is from the book of Matthew 6:33 which is a well-known verse in the Bible that says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” Patsy just like her mother, was a true prayer warrior! She was faithful and dedicated in her daily prayers equipped with her list of names, standing as an adversary of prayer, knowing her faith and authority in the power of prayer.

June 27, 2024 at 11:35 amMy dear sweet Mother Pasty “Alberta” has gone from labor to reward. Her “light up the room” smile, fun loving soul and Holy Ghost filled spirit will be truly missed. Patsy was an encourager as well as an encouragement to so many of us. She fought a good fight and stayed the course. It is my prayer for God to strengthen her family and comfort them as only He can during times like these.
