Alfred Lee Powell, Jr. was born on December 5, 1964 in Chesapeake, Virginia to the late Alfred Lee Powell and Mary Gean Delbridge Powell. Alfred slipped into the arms of Jesus in his sleep on January 15, 2021. Alfred your job is done down there my son, your new home is with me ready. Alfred graduated from Western branch in June of 1984. Alfred worked and was self-employed in Lawn Care of over seventeen years. He loved his job and his clients loved him. Alfred was a good man with a kind heart and he will thoroughly missed by all, but until we meet again “We Love You.”
Alfred was deeply loved by his “adopted” parents the late Barkley and Lessie B. Williams and their three children: B. Orlando, Vernon and Karen Williams (Gooden). Alfred was considered by the Williams’ children as their “baby” brother.
Alfred was survived by two sons, Alfred Young of Portsmouth, VA, LaMaure’ Cherry of Portsmouth, VA; three grandchildren, Al’Riyae Young, Zaniyah young, Nolan Cherry; two sisters, Marilyn Foreman (Theron) of Suffolk, VA, Tina Payne (Michael) of Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Alfred Alonzo Powell of Portsmouth, VA, Herman Williams, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Alfred is survived by a very special set of step children, John Douglas Oglesby of Suffolk, Jacinta Oglesby of Georgia, Monique Teartt of Atlanta and Brandon Sharpe of Virginia Beach.

May God uplift you doing these days with his love. I will miss Alfred and his Yellow truck with his cousin Wink sitting in the passenger seat. We were the lawn cutting buddies in Cedar Grove Acres. There will be no lawns in Glory but he be able walk on the streets of gold.

He was a kind gentle man who was always willing to help us with many odd jobs whenever we needed him. He faithfully cut our grass for many years and we could depend on him to keep our lawn looking good. We will also miss seeing him riding around in his yellow truck.
