Alfred E. Davis, Sr.

Alfred E Davis, Sr., a beloved member of the community and friend to many passed away on December 31, 2023, in Portsmouth, Va. He was born on July 10, 1931, and lived to the age of 92. He was predeceased by his mother, the late Christine Holloway and later raised by his grandmother in Norfolk, VA.

Alfred’s life was marked with dedication and service as a member of the Merchant Marines for over 40 years, where he gained his passion for the sea. Alfred traveled around the world to many countries and always enjoyed sharing his memories and stories with family and friends. Everyone knew that he loved to dance and have a good time. Alfred was a giving man who always went out of his way to help others. Upon fulfilling his duty to the Merchant Marines, he also worked for several years at Colonna’s Shipyard in Norfolk, Va.

In his lifetime, Alfred had the opportunity to meet his beloved wife, Jessinca Odell Davis, who he had been married to for over 60 years. He is survived by their three children together, Alfred Davis, Jr. (Joi), Valerie Scott (Charles), Gerald Davis (Doris) and loving daughter in-law, Faye Davis-Scott. Their eight grandchildren, Gerald Davis, Jr, Shawanna Davis, Donte Scott (Shamira), Marquita Anderson (Tyrell), Jermaine Davis, Marloe Davis, Keshia Green (Kevin) and  Tamika Davis. Also, ten great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. He also left behind a host of family and friends.
