Alexander “Forest” Mills departed this life on May 5, 2023. He was born on January 25,1944 to the late Alexander and Mary Mills in Franklin, VA.

He was affectionately called “Junie” by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Clinton Mills and one sister, Mildred Hardy.

Forest accepted Christ at an early age and graduated from Hayden High School in 1962. In life, he loved fishing, reading, whistling, family, and most importantly he loved the Lord!

After serving in the Army, Forest started his career as a Submarine Machinist at the Newport News Shipyard and the Norfolk Navel Shipyard, retiring in 1996.

He had a passion for ministry, and obtained a Bachelor of Divinity from Virginia University of Lynchburg in 2009. His love for music and singing led him to serve in the Voices of Faith Choir and the Men’s Choir for many years. His favorite artist was John P. Kee. He was also an active participant in the Jail Minisitry at the Chespeake City Jail.

Another passion of Forest were collecting  antiques and collectables. He spent his past time at many antiques shows and flea markets around the States showcasing his merchandise. He started his collection in his early 30’s and held them near and dear to his heart up until his passing.

To cherish his memory he leaves his devoted wife of 35 years Janie Mills. Four children, Alexis Lamont Mills, Jenell Ghee, Brandon Woodard, and Artina Mills. Seven grandchildren Dezhara, Tyra, Khalil, Brianna, Breniyah, Cassius, and Jeremiah.  One brother James Mills (Dorothy) of Connecticut, four sisters Deloris Mills, Lillie Lewis, Sylvia Jones (George) and Barbara Pace all of Richmond, VA, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
