Alan Eugene Hughes

Sunrise: July 10, 1947

Sunset: March 9, 2023

Alan Eugene Hughes was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1947.  He was the son of Hattie Elizabeth Parker and Eugene Whitfield Parker.  Alan was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System.  He grew up with a love of singing and dancing, especially with his cousin Cookie.  They have remained close cousins throughout their entire lives.

He moved to Portsmouth, Virginia in the early 1980’s.  He married, and had a daughter, Mickie, that was dear to his heart.  He became a Team Leader at Gwaltney, Inc. after only two years of working there prior to his divorce.

Alan decided to relocate to various parts of California and became a long-distance truck driver travelling throughout almost every state in the United States from the West Coast to the East Coast.  Being a Truck Driver became his love.  He loved people and enjoyed the opportunity to meet all kinds of people.  Once you meet Alan, you have a friend forever!

Alan always kept in touch with his family (cousins, aunts, and uncles).  He enjoyed ministering to the youth, as well as other adults.  He had a kind and sensitive heart.

He relocated back to the Hampton Roads area with his son Davonte.  Throughout the years, Alan remained a dear and close friend to Denise Pickering, Davonte’s mother, and her entire family.

Alan was active in Tabernacle Church as a member of the Tabernacle Choir.  As his illness progressed, he continued to attend church services whenever he could.  He loved Tabernacle and the Tabernacle Family as it continued to provide support and encouragement throughout his final years.  Alan loved to give God the glory, and to testify how Jesus was the anchor that was always there!

His is survived by Son Davonte Carroll, Grandchildren Kamilla and Karlo, two Sister Victoria Gray (Curtis), Carmen Lilly, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
